Artist Statement
The exploration of the female form and psyche is the thread that weaves my artwork together. By simplifying the interpretation of the female figure into the most easily recognizable features, I emphasize and exaggerate the curves that distinguish as well as define women. Each woman depicted in the “Red Vessel Grid” is unique but the overall color palette creates a sense of uniformity.
“Vessel” is a metaphor for a woman’s body because it can be viewed in a functional sense, as a container to hold or transport something, or as solely for decorative purposes. I seek to engage the viewer with my sense of playfulness and to evoke thought about how women are perceived, as well as our own self-perceptions.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
