“Black as Night”
My goal in this painting was to capture the glimmering lights of San Francisco. I have lived in this area all my life and have always been fascinated by the composition of the lights and the mood they create.
Acrylic is applied first, with a palette knife, in order to create thick texture. Vibrant colors are applied randomly all over the canvas. Next, the cityscape is painted on top with oil paint. I continue to use the palette knife to scrape on the paint, which allows some of those vibrant colors underneath to show through. I love the depth and contrast the texture creates.
San Francisco is known for its steep hills, and I find it’s worth the climb when every time you reach the top, this is what you see.
