Artist Statement
I grew up being an only child and having special admiration for my father; we used to travel frequently and trips marked my life. Ten years ago my father got a neurodegenerative illness and after that moment I’ve been working on the subject of personal memory and its fragility.
I´ve studied Arts at the University of Buenos Aires and then photography at the ICP (International Center of Photography) in New York.
I don´t work on historical memory, but rather on the memory we all carry with us, unique and formative of our individual identity. Our memory and recollections are the essence of our being, without them we can´t have a present nor a future.
151-2 Aéropostale is part of a series named Aéropostale where I took as starting point a collection of postcards from my family’s trips; I photographed and intervened them to create an atmosphere of dream, of unconscious images. A trip to the past.
The postcards of this series don´t show recognicible or iconic places; that´s why the observer can interpret them differently depending on the personal and unique experience that he/she has. This piece also has a texture that is not visible in the original postcard; My idea is to make visible the invisible; to work about moments from the past that are deeply in the unconscious level.
