Manhattan at Night II
I’m a career changer from exact science and technology to the more subjective world of art. But I feel, that just the diversity of both broadens the imagination, the range of themes, and stimulates the intuitive and the esthetics in art. Born in Germany, in young years I was strongly interested in art and architecture. But I studied physics and finished with a PhD degree in engineering. During my employments as scientist and manager in major German industrial enterprises, at my business trips I found time to pilgrimage to famous art museums and architectural masterpieces worldwide. Finally, after my retirement I turned completely to art with a focus on wall sculptures in rigorous geometry and in primary color schemes. These have been influenced by the European constructivists, and also by the American and Canadian structurists. Most of my artworks associate architecture, one might imagine to see buildings, roads and cityscapes.
The exhibited artwork “Manhattan at Night II” is a kind of an architectural model, artistically beautified in order to emphasize the esthetics even in compact, rather hostile city concepts. It’s obvious I like to play with perspectives: In a front view the artwork appears planar, as painted on a board, while the side views reveal a vital three-dimensionality.
