Snow in Paris
For me, snow is emotionally evocative – having grown-up in the beautiful, wintry city of Leningrad. Coupling that with the affinity I have for Paris results in feelings of nostalgia upon seeing Parisian architecture – especially the rooftops, which I believe tell a unique story of their city. I, like many, am inspired by French impressionists – especially Camille Pissaro and Claude Monet – I believe they were masters of light with the ability to achieve the most beautiful and penetrating grays. When I saw this view from a friend’s flat, I saw it with the eyes of Camille Pissaro and imagined myself being “imprisoned” in this room and forced to paint only what I saw from the window. And what I saw was incredibly beautiful.
