Joy of Broadway
I have had a love affair with New York City for many years. As much as I am at home in many European cities and enjoy their architecture, New York attracts me and surprises me to no end. There is so much visually unknown and hidden in this city that I never get tired of it. Having lived there for many years hasn’t changed my love. Despite the fact that this painting depicts a typical view of Broadway, the lighting was what inspired me to paint. And taxis and noises and chaos. The brownstones in shadows shine of such beautiful deep transparent alizarin crimson colors that I want to dwell deeper and deeper into them. Warm-yellow taxis are everywhere and add life and character to this view. The haziness of blue-ish glass buildings creates the depth and aerial perspective for the painting.
Occasionally appearing figures create a focal point and makes you want to pause and experience that moment. Most of my work is about reliving the moment and creating similar experience for the viewer.
