Artist Statement
A view of a bustling area of Yokohama off the West Exit of the main train station as seen from the English Conversation Center, 6th floor, where I worked in 2008. Here my interest has evolved from the passage of time, to the contrast between the directly-seen and the reflected. The rooftops with their duct-works, air-conditioning units, railings and other features depicted in sharp perspective are in contrast with the fluid, wavy features of buildings reflected in the large wall of mirrored, rippling windows of the Sotetsu Join Us Department Store. Multiple layers of transparent color were applied over white paper until all values and hues were balanced by eye.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
