Artist Statement
I’m a career changer from exact science and technology to the more subjective world of art. But I feel, that just the diversity of both broadens the imagination, the range of themes, and stimulated the intuitive and the aesthetic in art.
Born in Germany, in young years I was strongly interested in art and architecture. But I studied physics and finished with a PhD degree in engineering. During my employments as scientist and manager in major German industrial enterprises, at my business trips I found time to pilgrimage to famous art museums and architectural masterpieces worldwide. During my vacations I realized the one or the other painting and sculpture.
Finally, after my retirement I turned completely to art with a focus on wall sculptures in rigorous geometry and in primary color schemes. These have been influenced by the Netherlands constructivists Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg, and also by the American and Canadian structurists Charles Biederman and Eli Bornstein. Most of my artworks associate architecture; one might image to see buildings, roads and cityscapes.
The exhibited artwork “Character N”, one of my complete wall sculpture alphabet, is a kind of architectural typography, or a concept for a visionary typographical architecture, respectively. It’s obvious I like to play with perspectives. In a front view one recognizes the letter, while the side views associate architectural structures in different colors.
