Artist Troy Young
For me art is like a religion. My paintings are fetishes. I strive to create works that have a sacred, mystical quality. I try to find the divinity in things. When mankind first started to make art is when we became truly human. I feel a deep connection to and get much inspiration from this understanding.
As far as medium and technique go, I am very interested in experimentation. So far I have mainly focused on using oil paint on hardboard panels, though I often employ other mediums as well. I hand make the panels myself, including the frames. I use hardboard panels because I prefer a solid, rigid surface on which to work. For me the image is first and foremost, but I also take great care in creating the panel itself. I want the painting to be a complete work, at once an image and at the same time an object in three dimensions.
