Over the Wave
I painted “Over the Wave” to capture the ocean as a breathing entity. The “inhale”, or undertow, begins at the bottom of the canvas with its foamy turmoil. As the water recedes, the undertow pulls the group of surfers, and the viewer’s eye, out to the horizon. The horizontal streaks of blue and white recede back into space. The wave pulls into its curl and rises up into the distance.
I hoped to capture the “exhale” of exhilaration experienced by these surfers. Hope rises with them toward the sunlit wave crest, their destiny lying just beyond.
