The Water’s Edge

A rocking horse floating in muddy water can conjure up a variety of narratives. I created this painting during a time my life when I felt lost and confused, and was questioning the distant relationship I felt with my father as a child. I decided to portray this personal feeling in a way that would keep the narrative vague.
It is important to me to make a work that leaves room for a variety of meanings. Whether viewers see this piece and think of Hurricane Katrina, tsunami’s in East Asia, or losing a favorite childhood toy, is none of my business. I merely seek for them to look, consider, and to feel when they come upon this piece.
