The Water’s Edge

Artist Gina Tecson
San Francisco, California,
This painting was inspired by a walk I was taking with a friend along a beach in Alameda. It was incredibly foggy that day and caused the water to look like it was this icy blue color. The clouds started to part just a little and illuminated San Francisco in the distance. The colors and the subtle lighting were so enchanting that I knew I just had to capture the moment.
Each painting is made 100% with a palette knife. I start by building up the texture with different vibrant colors of acrylic. I follow that by painting the cityscape in oil, making sure to scrape it on so that some colors of acrylic will still show though. I’m attracted to the depth and dimension the texture creates.
