The Naked Truth

Artist Chloe Mceldowney
From an early age, I have always attempted to uncover the invisible magnificence in the world. As a sensitive and compassionate child, I grew up finding beauty in less obvious places. As a student at the University of Dayton, I have discovered my love of the human figure. Through painting, drawing, and sculpting, I have become obsessed with the portrayal of the nude form.
Each of us has our own strong emotional attachment or detachment with the nude figure. The figure is something we monitor and scrutinize everyday – we have become overly familiarized with our human body. Thus, my recent artwork is about challenging these preconceived judgments of human flesh and giving the viewer a new sense of inquisition.
In Elegant Aberration, I attempt to illuminate the typically grotesque and intrusive perspectives of the female figure through cropped composition and an ominously saturated color palette. Through these vivid, bulbous forms, the viewer is thrown into an uncomfortable, yet visually captivating, world of radiant flesh.
