“G-Spots” points out the limitations of censorship. The first thing to go through my mind when I see a blackened out area is, “What’s behind that?”. Eventually “what’s behind that” is discovered or uncovered anyway.
The attempt to cover such a large amount of sexual imagery with black spots in this work makes it absurd. The viewer can easily interpret the activities depicted. I used spots instead of the traditional rectangle because the circles complimented the curves of the figures.
I am a self taught artist from high school to present. I learned a great many lessons about art and sculpture by working in a bronze foundry, where we cast fine art sculptures, from small to monumental size. This work, completed in 1992 shortly after high school, was inspired by the work of Keith Haring. The repetitive imagery of the human body became the overall style in my works.
I have created sculptures of a Brain and a DNA molecule using this style. My most recent work is a sculpture of a life-size woman comprised of 515 smaller human figures. I enjoy all mediums and enjoy a large variety of subjects, mostly in sculpting and painting.
