The Naked Truth

From where I grew up, I can say that I am unequivocally lucky. It is accurate to say that I grew up in the boonies. We had horses, chickens, ducks, all too many cats and dogs in a house that looked, to be fair, like a barn. It seemed more like we were young kids running this rather large redneck area with no authority. My parents drank- a lot. This gave me a lot of time for myself.
With this said, I got very lucky in my life by being accepted into art school at a very young age. I attended the local middle school of the arts, and then Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts. After, I received a full scholarship to Massachusetts College of Art. Eventually, I switched gears to human nature/neuroscience, and received my BA in Psychology at Florida Atlantic University
My work functions very naturally for me as I explore aspects of femininity in myself that was not present in upbringing. I do not “try” by any means to be anything in my work; rather, I let my own mirror come forth as I dive into what it means to carry a feminine nature to this world. As the images change, I notice that my relationship to this world does so simultaneously.
I think of artwork and the artist as inseparable; what elements are present in my work are in truth attached to my own story. I allow each work to functional as a psychological marker of history. At the time of this painting, I happened to feel very confined and guarded, yet with very certain attempts to stand up for my truth. This painting demonstrates that attempt shamelessly.
