Falling To Pieces
This painting is not a portrait of a specific person, it is an allegory. I guess different people have their associations, some of them can connect it with their private life, others can see a complicity of our present. I decided to represent this state of mind by drawing inspiration from antic female sculptures, with bodies covered by pleats of flowing tunics. Rather I turned these tunics into a shorter and simpler t-shirt. Usually in my paintings I use a multilayer old masters technique. In this work I mix realism and abstraction. It is my objective that each element delivers drama in the most natural and organic way: the figure, its soul (light shadow on the left) and the external world (background). Particularly, the figures expression is balanced by the simplicity and purity of the white t-shirt. The soul, a specular to the figure, shows the internal turmoil of the figure. The soul is represented in the dark background which further expresses the figures feelings of an adverse external world.
