Olga Stepanova – Love Leaves
When I lived in New Orleans, I used to walk to the park nearby. Usually it was already dark on the way home, and these shadows appeared on the sidewalk by a cute little house. They looked like flowers to me, even though they were just magnolia tree leaves. I stopped, if nobody was around, and looked at these “flowers” blossoming right under my feet. This was the best part of my journey.
This place became my favorite in the whole city, and one day I saw the lady who lived in the house. The yard was always full of plants, toys, and lots of adorable decorations. It always gave me a cozy feeling of a loving family, and I was curious about the people living there. She smiled at me and said hello. I wanted to tell her about the “flowers”, but never did.
While painting, I noticed that many shadows shaped hearts, like a reflection of the whole atmosphere of that place.
This piece is from my recent series “Leaves. Love. New Orleans.” Each painting has a story told by leaves. Thank you for listening to this one.
