Snow Storm Armed with Umbrella
Why do I paint? Because I breathe. I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil in my hands and hope to draw and paint until I no longer can. I was born in Cuba and left when I was three years old. After years of wandering, my family finally settled in Miami. I have always been a stranger in a strange land. This feeling of alienation led me to live by my own rules and set my own path.
My brushstroke is my signature, loose, powerful and free. My preferred medium is oil on canvas. The fluidity of the material, the brilliant colors and the way they can be made to perform with one another is incomparable to any other medium. For me to paint, I must be moved by an image, by an event, by color, by character by light by darkness….
Every painting has a story; every painting is a reflection of my thoughts, my emotions. I paint the human experience, suffering, loneliness, triumph, beauty, love, and nature. My aim is emotion, I want the viewer to connect with the work and feel what I’m trying to portray… to be transported, even for just a moment and to be intimately involved in the human experience.
“Snow Storm” represents to me the ongoing struggle of man versus nature. The perseverance of the human spirit under the most treacherous circumstances and the survival spirit that always endures, no matter how shadowy and tumultuous our circumstances.
