Artist Eun Hye Kang
Silkscreen on Fabric and Paper
I am a fiber artist and a textile designer living in Michigan and studying M.F.A in Fiber Art at Cranbrook Academy of Art. I was born in 1982 in Seoul, South Korea. My B.F.A in Fiber Art was received from Maryland Institute College of Art(MICA) in 2010 and B.S in Clothing Science was received from Seoul Women’s University in 2006.
I have designed the geometric, abstract, and graphic patterns which are inspired from the lines of Korean alphabet, ‘Han-geul’. Because of Han-geul’s geometric and modern patterns with vertical lines, horizontal lines, squares, triangles, and circles, it has strong potential as a design instrument. I have also used various dyeing methods and techniques to produce them.
More than any other medium, I have accomplished my work by pouring myself into challenging silkscreen projects that demanded considerable time, extensive processing, and skilled craftsmanship. Though exhausted at times, I was enthralled by the creative process of using my own design tools.
In this work, I recomposed two opposite patterns; the dynamic and three-dimensional wave pattern from ‘Giwa'(Traditional Korean Roof Tile), and the static and two-dimensional pattern from Korean alphabet.
