“A visual stimulant may spark one idea, a technique or process evolves and in it an entirely different outcome is resolved, that in itself is my artwork” – Claire Foord, Artist
Visual Artist Claire Foord’s journey into the field of professional art began in 2000 through study at the Centre of Performing Arts majoring in Scenic Art and set production. In 2009, after working in private sector business for the most part as a Graphic Artist, Claire directed her focus purely towards her artistic career.
Through study at the School of Art, Architecture and Design at the University of South Australia Claire completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Painting) graduating with an Award of Merit and Golden Key Honors. Being a recipient of the UMAP Scholarship enabled her to also study Fine Arts at Concordia University in Montreal. Emotive and affecting Claire’s works evolve into a beautiful mess where residual lines and initial marks lay visible through the paintings surface.
“I’m interested in change, growth & evolution. I am drawn to reflect in my works on occurrences of transformation. The never ending subject matter that capture my creativity include; buildings, people, places, law, language, trends, personalities…something or someone may exist with a role to play or an intent and over time, over the course of events, through natural or manufactured means, it or they evolve and transform to serve as a new form, function or intent” – Claire Foord, Artist
Working in a mix of studio and travelling environment Claire uses a mixed medium of mainly acrylics, inks, collage and found objects. Claire endeavors to stretch her artwork, pushing and pulling it in every direction. Her work is unpredictable, liberated and exposed, often figurative and organic in nature, beginning with a desire or goal in mind but allowing, through trial and error, the paintings to evolve creating their own outcome.
