This image is part of a series and an ongoing project called “The decisive movement”.
In this project I work with a small pinhole camera, made from a matchbox, which I use make images which are the exact opposite of what Cartier-Bresson called “the decisive moment”; instead of pressing the shutter button at exactly the right instant, these images aim to capure not the subjects as such, but their motion.
I am aiming to become one with the simple camera I am using and move it along with the motion of the subjects, opening and closing the shutter according to subject’s motion, hence creating an image of the flow of time in it.
Determination is at once a capture of the brisk movement of a man hasting off to the office and a portrait of a man burdened by the stress felt by many office workers.
