Call for Entries Accepted Artists

This is a still image of a video I created for music “Clearly 2”, composed by a percussionist, Matthew Coley. He commissioned a glass artist to create his glass musical instruments. Since glass is an art form of fire and water, I created videos based on fire and water. Especially, from a video part that the still was created, I layered up the movements of water and mirrored the motion.
Born and raised in Japan, I received the MFA degree from Iowa State University. Recognized as an Iowa Artist 2009, I spent 2 years in Dublin, Ireland, and now live in Pullman, Washington, teaching Design Concept at Washington State University. I love people, dancing, and eating tomatoes.
New Media Art allows me to expand my horizon as a visual and performance artist. In my art making, the process of physicality is as important, often more important, as the result that follows. Viewers frequently asked me what I was feeling and thinking while painting.
“Energy, space and movement” is my theme; it made a perfect sense when I started to establish an installation of layered projections from the movement of colors. Also from a perspective as a dancer, it made sense to create drawings and paintings using your entire body. With full involvement of the whole person, I invite viewers to experience my art and share the process of art making.
