We often consider the modern day superstar athlete to be an egotistical multi-millionaire living a pampered life surrounded by yes men and thirsty women who are willing and begging to fulfill their every need. A living legend playing out the fantasy life of every boy and man from 8 to 80 years old. Why does society place so much value on the physical abilities of these gifted gladiators?
Love them or hate them, there are stars, superstars, and then there are megastars. How do you perceive these icons that have transcended sports and are bigger than the game that elevated them to superhuman status? How does a painted canvas of their likeness shift your outlook on them as a person? Flesh and blood like you and I, breathing the same air, and feeling the same emotions.
What lies behind their eyes? Do you see a father, a son, a husband, a sex symbol? A machine specifically designed to perform on the playing field?, A philanthropist sharing his excess with the less fortunate? A young boy who had nothing growing up who is now able to give back to the community and family that raised him? Or do you see an arrogant, self-centered self-proclaimed demigod?
