Artist Jon Guinn
Columbus, Ohio, USA
The piece illustrates a black male’s adaptation of a physical likeness respectable in a white male-dominant business world, resulting in a depreciation of ones own cultural values.
The image is a representation of African American men and their pursuit in establishing a social standing in society that serves as a firm opposition to projections in media. Such a brave endeavor is fraught with feelings of emptiness, shame, disappointment, alienation, and lowered self-esteem. Yet still, an easy sacrifice for the progression of a culture as a whole.
