Call for Artists Accepted Entries
Los Angeles, California, USA
I was inspired by Medieval and Renaissance portraiture, the way they used light, color and shadow to add drama in their subjects. Tight framing was used to convey importance. Symbolism was sometimes used to convey status. I used the pear and brush in my portrait to convey that I am a still life painter.
I choose to focus more intently on simpler compositions and treat my subject matter more as heroic portraits. Focusing on light color, imperfection, balance and harmony. I am drawn to rich color, texture and character. I use the juxtaposition of strong color against opposite or neutral tones to help focus full attention to each element I wish the viewer to see.
