The Roared Behest
I use sculpture and installation as a means of wrenching a particular moment or place from the overarching themes in my two-dimensional work. In this instance, The Roared Behest is a facet of my exhibition I Am Rising Like A Mountain, which traces the self-realization and exaltation of man in the format of myth.
As a larger-than-life-size concrete casting, The Roared Behest creates a conduit to man’s innate willpower by tethering intangible ideas like self-realization and exaltation to blunt physical materiality.
With the format of mythology in mind, I referenced modeling techniques from the Greek Hellenistic Age, which is aesthetically characterized by dramatic figuration and a certain ability to ‘freeze’ the subject in a moment of physical and emotional tension. In the same way, I hope to convey an absolute physical and emotional exertion of will in The Roared Behest.
