All of my art begins with a texture. The image comes to life as I lay out the different textural pieces on the canvass. It is only after I have laid the textural groundwork that I am inspired to add certain colors. For “Patchwork Sunset” I began with remnants of dried paint from my palettes, a few wood chips, and dollops of molding paste. The textural elements seemed to line up like the beginnings of a patchwork quilt. My mother has always been an avid quilter and although I never was interested in quilting, I believe my passion for color harmony stemmed from my exposure to her quilts.
