Green Call for Entries Accepted Artists
Los Angeles, CA
I am an architect and artist originally from Lexington, Kentucky but have resided in Los Angeles for nearly three years. The density and design of LA has, for me, been a punch in the gut to the slower, tighter-knit sensibilities of the south. Through acrylics, pencil, and a good deal of recycled/reclaimed materials as a base, I’ve been exploring these thoughts on scale, contextual consumerism, the immense infrastructure that has almost become invisible to our eyes, and ultimately, trying to better understand the role of the individual within this collective society.
Patriotic is composed of layers of the weekly grocery ads, thinly whitewashed like an old billboard—readying the next wave of messaging. This serves as the backdrop for the iconic wartime recruiting Uncle Sam, imploring us in this case to ‘buy’–service to our country now measured in often we hit that target of product consumption. “I want YOU to buy more shit”.
