I grew up in the Northwest, where I built forts, played in clear creek waters and followed tracks of wild animals under the lush green canopies of old growth forests. These places of wonder and solitude are neighborhoods now, full of cookie cutter homes, where people have no memory of the beauty that once stood in the middle of their living rooms.
I created ‘Farmer’s Field’ while on a train trip to Los Angeles in the middle of November. Inevitably, traveling on a train slows one down, allowing one to see landscapes that may not be accessible by car, bus or plane.
Dying colors of a fallow field raced by the window of my private room on wheels, the surface plowed over so that the soil could rest…and perhaps even dream…of those brave emerald wisps of life, emerging from its rich darkness in the fresh renewal of spring.
