The Dog and Boy
Through my art I want to explore the underlying anxiety and uncertainty we all have towards the world and the way we approach subjects like perceptions of reality, self and meaning. I attempt to do this by creating images that will incite certain unsettling and vaguely ominous feelings and evoke a curiosity in the viewer which makes them wonder what meaning the image may have, if any.
I also make an effort to ambiguously include themes of fundamental human concerns with the use of subtle symbolism. The intention of this is to trigger subliminal signals in the elemental and animalistic mind of the viewer in a way that is veiled in a beautifully painted picture.
Tapping into these powerful controlling cues like sexuality, violence, human interaction and relationships with children can have a significant affect on the reaction towards a piece of artwork. It is this conflict between beauty and repulsion that is intended to create a tension that stands out to the viewer.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
