Artist Statement
I call myself a conceptual realist with a pop culture twist. As a refugee from the international world of advertising, I have always been fascinated by the power of an intriguing visual, and the interplay with words. In this case, the visual was an extra large hero sandwich (sometimes called a hoagie or a wedge depending on your geography.) Because of its size and promise, I painted it as a two-part diptych
The underlying list of heroes is admittedly subjective. I learned that heroism has little to do with perfection. Instead, it has everything to do with rising to the occasion at the right time and place. For me, it was a journey of discovery. For the viewer and the reader, I hope it will be, as well.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
