In my late teens after having painted over 100 works, I started getting bored with the teaching methods employed by my art teachers, and I began to explore other mediums and new ways of painting. This exploration and curiosity lead to the development of my own style of painting. I had always enjoyed cooking, as well as all the different colors and textures that food offered.
Naturally, I started painting with food, although I soon found it to be costly and somewhat wasteful because my work never lasted longer than a few hours. After years of working odd jobs, traveling, and painting, I came across research on genetically modified foods and the patents which large corporations have on seeds and was highly affected by what I saw.
It took talking to a neighbor that photographs food for a living for me to realize what I had been missing, and it suddenly clicked– a unique artistic concept which enables me to combine the textures and colors I so admire in food with the timelessness of photography.
