Elevator To The Moon
Fine Art Photography
I am a fine art photographer, originally from Pittsburgh, PA, and I now live and work in the Baltimore, MD area. Despite my scientific career, including work with the Hubble Space Telescope Project, my greatest passion in life is in creating photographic art, typically with lensless pinhole film cameras and also with lensed film cameras. I usually shoot on 4×5 sheet film, and I enjoy exploring architectural, landscape, and portrait art.
My piece “Elevator To The Moon” is a 4×5 film pinhole photograph depicting the ceiling of the Peabody Conservatory Library in Baltimore, Maryland. The exposure time was three minutes, with the use of a tripod. This dramatic view of the ceiling of this grand library presents a kind of surreal “elevator into space” look, with the lights near the edges of the image appearing somewhat like firing rocket thrusters.
