Artist Cynda Valle
Mistress of the Deep
I started painting at the age of 18, and now, 35 years later, I continue to paint everyday. I paint and teach out of my studio in Willits Ca., with my pet squirrel “Kujo” for company.
I have always been interested in surreal images. I paint them with as much illusion as possible, for I believe the more “realistic” the image the more “believable” the surreal elements in the painting will be. Oil is the medium I use because it best lends itself to highly illusionistic imagery I aim for.
I started my art education at a university in Chihuahua, Mexico where I was much taken with the multitude of statues of the “Virgen De Guadalupe” I saw all around. I loved the colors and the beatific expression on her face. I am currently involved in a series about women and water and found the two elements (water and the “Virgen”) kept combining in my mind and so, created this painting of the “Virgen De Guadalupe” underwater as the “Mistress of the Deep”.
