Artist Statement
I started painting at the age of 18, and now, 35 years later, I continue to paint everyday. I paint and teach out of my studio in Willits Ca., with my pet squirrel “Kujo” for company. I live in a vintage Victorian where I have enjoyed many a soak in the old claw foot tub that is original to the house. I got curious about the tub and found out there was a time when, out of modesty, women bathed under a sheet. That sounded like a beautiful image and so inspired this painting. While soaking people are prone to dreaming, and so I imagined a long line of women before me soaking in that same tub dreaming of mermaids.
