I’m interested in the medium of photography itself. In a way it’s the only medium which requires realism. We view a photograph as being indexical of something that must exist in the real world that needs to exist because the paper and the silver recorded it. I want my work to defy this need for realism and be able to create images that are abstract and can be viewed as paintings in the photographic medium.
The work is non duplicateable/camera-less photograms in the traditional C-print medium. I’m interested in our inability as humans to perceive the universe, how we are limited to see only a small part of the light spectrum and the images we see of outer space are false color images from gamma and x-ray. With these images I want to create an object innately human that allows up to perceive ourselves in a new way of seeing the copy, the contact, the simulacrum, a color shroud. The C-print process is image making in the dark showing us what we can’t see.
A mirror with a memory.
