Call for Entries Accepted Artists
Artist Casey Scharling
Wilmington, North Carolina, USA
My current body of work explores the struggle and beauty that can be found in the repetition, rhythm, and emotion of daily life. Each piece begins with loose washes of color. The figures and scene follow, as I use the ambiguous forms on the canvas as a guide. Layers of charcoal and acrylic paint allow the canvas to materialize with ease in a rapid development of the surface. The picture takes shape around the initial color arrangements as I respond simultaneously to the images I reference and the canvas in front of me. The painting develops with strokes of thick oil paint which weave patterns and shapes of color to create the final image. The paint application is immediate, intuitive, and emotional.
