Blur Against Rock Wall
Fine Art Photography
I take photographs of myself, but I would not necessarily call them self-portraits. I try to split my self or my consciousness from my physical body. My mind is behind the lens, considering the photograph, while my body poses in front of the camera. They are at once entirely personal, and completely anonymous.
When I look at my photographs, I see that I am literally in them, but I usually don’t see my self, just my body. I use myself because I want to make beautiful images and I understand how to use my body (in terms of physicality and personality) to realize these images.
Blur Against Rock Wall is about hiding in plain view. After being backed against a wall, and having considered running or hiding, there is no other option but to hide in full view. There is a gracefulness in the blur that shows that the hiding is not born out of fear, but a desire to not be fully seen. Instead, it is a way to protect one’s self, and to not reveal too much.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or idea
