After receiving my Master of Arts Degree from the University of Iowa, I moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where I am currently working toward my Master of Fine Arts Degree at Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
I started making traditional cut and paste collages in September 2011. Working in this way was influenced by my decision to revisit my involvement in a horrific car accident as a child, which put me in recovery for months. My process begins with fragmented and incomplete pieces, evolving eventually until all elements form a new whole; which parallels my recovery.
In my current body of work, I am juxtaposing images of pinups with essentially disposable processed food. My intent was not to convey a message, but rather to set rules and limitations on the way I work, thus leaving the interpretation of the artwork to the viewer.
For my materials I had five Rogue For Men and five Family Circle Magazines from the early to late sixties and a stack of different colored 11 x 17 inch paper. The rules I set up for myself, were to use one woman from Rogue For Men with one food ad from Family Circle magazine to create each collage.
