Street Scene 1
Environments have always fascinated me. The great Venetian painters considered the environment as an essential part of a figure composition. Streets don’t fascinate me, but neighborhoods do. I grew up in the South Bronx, later moved to LA, and every time I moved from one place to another I sought out the neighborhood I lived in. Eventually winding up in LA on Hollywood Blvd.
My collage, “Street Scene 1”, is from a series of neighborhoods I have lived in, both on the East coast and West coast. I’ve tried to fuse both environments into one idealistic image.
World mythology has, also, played an active role in most of my art. Especially, in collage, where disparate images can be combined to create a newer meaning.
My formal art education began in New York at the high school of Art and Design. Later, I was accepted to the Brooklyn Museum Art School. Then, I attended the School of Visual Arts, the Art Students League, the New School of Social Research and the National Academy of Design.
