As all memories are distorted with time, so are the works I create. My current work focuses on memory and the way that each of us remembers people, places, and events in different ways. I draw from my own experiences and expand upon them in the studio, creating art that shows a mixture of reality, memory, and my own imagination. I make watercolor and oil collages and paintings that are cut and torn apart, reconstructing a new visual space – unidentifiable but inclusive through their ambiguity. Through a kind of observational abstraction Iam attempting to relate my past to my present, and show the fluidity of experience.
I try to always maintain a balance between spontaneity and control, allowing intuition to guide the development of each piece. The connections I see in my memories and experiences are tested in this process, since they are at once destroyed and then restored in an entirely new way.
