Call for Entries Accepted Artists

I have always loved creating things and showed signs of this at a young age. My favorite place to visit as a kid was our local hobby shop, where I would always find a myriad of fascinating arts and crafts. However, I did not pursue art again in earnest until my mid-30’s, as I initially worked in the non-profit sector after college.
As I rediscovered my own creativity as an adult, I was immediately drawn to mixed media and collage. I am a very tactile person and love the look and feel of a variety of materials. My work is very instinctual in nature. I don’t do any preliminary sketching, but prefer instead to start with a single scrap of paper or a few brush strokes of paint and proceed with my intuition.
This particular piece started out as a collage on a piece of watercolor paper. The layers of paint, collage, and ink drawings built up slowly until they began to create a unified whole. The series of oval shapes in the center help carry the eye upward, creating a sense of movement. The finished work was mounted onto a piece of recycled wood, and small wood strips were used to frame the edges.
