Call for Entries Accepted Artists

When I was just 12-years-old I would beg my mother to take me to the library so I could explore books about artists. I would spend hours reading about and drawing the works of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. In my teenage years my mentor, artist Don White, exposed me to Picasso, Matisse, Van Gogh and others.
It has been my intent for many years to complete my interpretation of “The Dream” by Henri Matisse as a tribute to the influence he and other masters have had on my journey through art.
This work itself is a portrait of dancer/choreographer Rachel Lopez. As a dancer Rachel’s “natural” state is in motion. In contrast to this, I wanted to emphasize her stillness instead, and externally create motion in an unforeseen world emanating from her own being. The patchwork imagery of the torn paper layers depth and line giving way to a stained-glass like effect.
