Call for Entries Accepted Artists
Poland, Ohio, USA
As soon as an object is taken out of its original context, the purpose and identity of that object changes. While studying in Florence, Italy, I had the opportunity to express this thought in my work.
Adjacent to the ancient, decorated architecture lie practical, rigid, overlooked forms like vents, grates, sewer coverings, blinds, and railings. Many of these structures have a mysterious aura: they contain voids that are contrasted by stark, overlying lines. I am interested in the objects themselves, but also what exists beneath and in between.
These forms are the subjects of my oil paintings and charcoal drawings, and are seen as a way to collect my memories and experiences through the act of art making. My work provides the forms observed with a new identity.
The views expressed by our artists in their artist statements do not necessarily represent the views of our art galleries. Artists can be visually expressive but may verbally misrepresent their true intentions or ideas. Please note that we support expression, whether it is controversial or not, but our intention is never to offend.
