Artist Kristi Machado
Kristi Machado _Single Mum_ Digital Art
I spent my childhood split between Florida and Massachusetts, and had more grandparents than the average kid. I received my BA from Stetson University in DeLand, FL and I’m working towards by MA in Photography with Savannah College of Art and Design. I’m on track to complete my degree this November.
Art is one of those things that run in my family. I remember sitting in front of an easel, which I was 7 years old, learning that the sky met the ground to form the horizon, and you should paint grass in the direction it grows. My mom taught these lessons, along with many others. When I’m not playing with my camera or scanner, I serve as a still photographer with the U.S. Air Force. I’ve been active duty for the past 10+ years. I was introduced to the scanner as a capturing device in one of my college classes, and was intrigued by the quality of light and detail it was able to capture. I’ve been hooked ever since. Color and light are two elements that are extremely important to my work, but I still let the occasional black and white sneak through for nostalgia’s sake.
I was in an experimental mood when I created this body of work. I didn’t really know what to expect. When others view this work, they end up turning it from side to side, experiencing the change in balance and how it affects their interpretation of the piece. The also seem to like the different perspective of viewing something considered to be so normal. To me, nature is the original form of artwork, and there isn’t much that needs to be done to capture it for what it is.
When I’m not wearing my combat boots, you’ll find me in my flip-flops wishing I were at the beach.
