Call for Artists Accepted Entries
Artist Natan Pernick
This portrait is part of a series of anonymous painted portraits, which involved shooting pedestrians on the street and then painting selected photos. In my selections I attempted to achieve a delicate balance between stereotype and uniqueness, such that a subject might look familiar and yet remain an enigma.
I found significant interest in the appearance of the teenage boy. In my opinion he looked confident but also struggled to accept the instability of his teenage experience. His image combines charisma along with symptoms of depression. As my challenge is to be as realistic as possible, I painted him exactly as he appeared that day.
