The Tortured Artist
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, USA
Every painting that I create has to emotionally charge the viewer. Oil paint must be layered. Negative space respected. Strokes assessed daily. Yet the final image must appear unaffected and unrehearsed. Otherwise, the work is pointless.
My paintings of contemporary women are raw, strong, and truthful. I am hell-bent on revealing them as fully-realized human beings. My intention is to capture the arresting appeal of their native strengths, the beauty that transcends social or sexual expectations. This is my obsession. And therein lies the torture.
