Paris, , France
Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, I am a Canadian artist currently living in Paris, France. I have studied painting and sculpture, printmaking and paper making in both Parsons The New School for Design in New York and l’Ecole de Parsons à Paris in Paris.
Obelisk is a steel obelisk from my (Dis)Orientation Series created in spring of 2012. It is a composite map of Paris: All the places I have lived, routes traversed, rivers crossed, some areas recollected in vivid detail while blocked out, blank, and forgotten. It is the Paris I remember, scaled not in terms of meters and kilometers, but rather in days lived and steps taken.
These pieces focus on Nostalgia and the haunting linger of ephemerality . Memories and experiences, journeys and discoveries, of captured shadows and freed reality. Streets walked and cities travelled-whole areas mapped and then forgotten, rooftop escapes and momentary silence, dancing whispers taste the wind. It is in the presence of absence that whole worlds are formed.
