Abstract Texture Study
I am a vehicle for the aberrant and esoteric. The objective of my work is reaction; in other words, I will not allow for passive glances. I portray unique images that will create a response, encourage consideration, and ideally cause the viewer to remember their experience with my art.
My studies of abstract texture are a divergence from my usual art practices. My previous work had been very representational images that I would paint with near photographical accuracy attempting to create smooth images that showed the “true nature” of the subject matter. The texture studies began as a way to break free from my very rigid painting practices. I had never before created work with raw emotion, these studies allowed for evidence of my artist’s hand, and served as a chance to experiment using other materials with my oil paints. I began using medium additives and painting tools other than brushes to create different effects. Texture Study # 3 was made with a palette knife, a pair of scissors, and my own gloved hand.
I received a BA in Art with an emphasis in studio practice from Nebraska Wesleyan University. I have recently resided in rural Northern New Mexico, using the solitude as my own personal artist retreat. I have had the time to work in my studio: painting, sculpting, creating art dolls, and writing short stories and comics. I will be spending the upcoming summer season travelling but will be open to commissions and requests again in the fall. I look forward to any opportunity to show my work.
