Artist Portrait Series | Peter Maeck

Silent Communication Artist Portrait Photography

Being a writer and photographer gives Peter Maeck the advantage of understanding the power of telling a story, either through elaborate wording or a photograph. For his artist portrait photography session with Lenkus, his portraits truly reflect the artistic individual he is. For our “Silent Communication” art show, his photograph Woman On A Bus, shows a woman in a public bus resting her chin on her palm as she stares out the window. Although we aren’t sure about what she’s staring at, Maeck captured her right at the moment when her sight is directed towards the camera. As the light hits her, casting shadows under her eyes and on half her face, her tired eyes imply an untold story.

Linnea Lenkus, fine art photographer and curator at Linus Galleries, values her artists by building professional and personal relationships throughout their participation in our art shows at our contemporary art gallery. Through portrait photography sessions, Lenkus interacts with the artists in a comfortable environment that allows them to express their personality  in front of the camera. Lenkus has portrait studio locations in Long Beach and Pasadena, where she focuses on photographic creations for people who desire to capture all stages of their lives.

“As a writer as well as a photographer I am attentive with my camera to seeds of drama in the visual world. As a writer I tell stories in space, time, and motion; as a photographer I create still images which suggest or imply time and motion within larger human narratives.

I was impressed that in photographing me Linnea took a “dramatic” approach, suggesting gestures and attitudes which would help capture who I am (or would like to be) within the time of a shutter’s click.

I’ve had good experiences with other galleries showing my work, but none better than with Linus Galleries. The care, sensitivity, and good humor of Linnea and her staff made working with them both an artistic and a personal delight.”
